About the Artist
Creating art is Eric Gordon's second career. For 50 years, he had a fulfilling career in advancing the science of organic chemistry, specializing in drug discovery. His artistic process developed over the last 10 years where he refined his own methods for creating visual art. Eric finds a surprising number of scientific insights and concepts are transferable to his art practice. There is an overlap in the visual creativity required for innovative design of molecules, such as those found in medications, and in artistic endeavors. His two main interests, science, and art, coalesced to allow his unique viewpoint to be conveyed in visual form. Without knowing his background, viewers use terms such as "biological" or "cellular" to describe his work. Many pieces capture a moment of movement and fluidity that brings to mind the fundamentals of how the world works and what lies beneath that which is seen by the human eye. He is currently a Consulting Professor at Stanford University. He has no formal training in art and is self taught.
